Always Be Watchful

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

-1 Peter 5:8

It seems to me that when I feel closest to Christ and when everything is going well are the most crucial times I should be the most cautious. Why? Because whenever God is blessing, the devil is right there opposing us immediately. I guess maybe because our guard is usually down when we start to feel a sense of security. We need to remember that we should always be vigilant and prepared because the devil will be there with temptation, with doubt, and with an array of other things. The fact is that Satan wants to undermine what is happening in our lives. He opposes it immediately. He always will. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy.” We need to resist by standing firm in our faith, by remaining true to our faith in Christ and our commitment to live as He instructs us and as He gave us the example. We resist by taking a positive stand against his schemes for us, drawing on our faith, our knowledge of God’s principles and character, and with the leading of the Holy Spirit. So we must be practically prepared: living righteously, knowing the word and how to respond to temptations.
