A Heart of Compassion

Mark 6:34

“And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things.”

Compassion is a requirement of true love. Unfailing and unconditional love is marked by active compassion. Compassion is love in action. It is more than words or concern. It involves hands ready to reach out in any way possible, especially when it comes to nonbelievers or those who have distanced themselves from the Lord. Nonbelievers are not the enemy, let’s remember that behind their sin is an empty, searching, lost person whom God loves. We are not called to condemn. We are called to appeal to nonbelievers with the message of the gospel. We need compassion. Jesus had it overflowing from His life. He was moved by the needs of others. Let’s be an example of His love. No matter how far someone believes he has strayed from or even deserted the Lord, he can always be restored. If we want to be used by God in any capacity, this should always be on our minds and hearts. Let’s pray that through this heart of compassion we would be moved to become a part of what God is doing to take the gospel to hurting people around us.
