For All of My Days

Psalm 63: 3-4

“Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.”

One of the reasons we exist is to worship God. Those who savor the vision of God know that His love is better than all that this life can give. God’s love is unconditional, unchanging, and ALWAYS loyal. This verse reveals King David’s heart for God. He wrote this psalm at a time he was fleeing for his life from his oppressors. He focused on his relationship with God and realized how much more important it was than his life itself. He chose to praise God even in the moment of fear and hardship. This serves as an example for us in our life as well. The Bible does not say we are to give thanks and praise to the Lord only when we feel good and when life is good. Psalm 107:1 says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for HE is good!” Praise and worship can sometimes be a sacrifice, because we don’t always want to do it, especially when things aren’t going so well. Sometimes we need a change of perspective. The essence of true worship is savoring God for the sweetness and excellence of who He is. It is not primarily a thirst for any of God’s gifts. It is a thirst for God Himself. May our hearts settle on the infinitely greater beauty of the GIVER instead of only on the beauty of the gifts. 💝
