Jesus is the Way

Luke 12:15-21

Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”

Jesus warns us of the snare of greed and of putting our confidence in our possessions and wealth. What may start as a wise course of action to plan ahead for leaner times, can easily slide into greed and a false sense of security. Jesus tells us that even for the wealthy, their life is not defined by what they have.  He points out the foolishness of being prepared for the rest of our lives on Earth, but not growing in our relationship with God. Why is this foolish? Because none of us knows when our last minute in this life will be.  It may be before we’re able to enjoy any of the things that we’ve so carefully set aside such as our wealth. Rather, we should be making every effort to be rich in the things of God. Deepening our knowledge of Him and relationship with Him, and responding to His leading in ministering to others.  These things will last after this life. We have no promise of a long life, but we have a promise of life after death if we’re wise enough to seek Him.
