John 5:39
“You diligently study the scriptures because you think that by them you posses eternal life. These are the scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”
Be careful not to become like the Pharisees and the teachers of the law. For they studied the scriptures and followed the law but their hearts were corrupt without the love of God. If you have knowledge because you’ve studied the Bible that is one thing, but if you haven’t gone to Jesus directly, and if you don’t hear Him speak then all of your knowledge is of no value. Likewise, if all of your good deeds are done on your own, then it is all done in vain. Psalm 126:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” You must remember the most important factor of salvation…which is knowing Jesus and Him knowing you. We can hear Him because He is alive and when we obey Him, we put all of our trust in Him. John 10:27-28, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give to them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” So just ask yourself, do I just know who Jesus is (Bible knowledge)? Or, do I know Him personally (by the spirit)? Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” And what is the will of our Father in heaven? John 6:40, “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the son and believes in Him shall have eternal life; and I raise him up at the last day.” Therefore, if you do not hear and obey Jesus then you truly don’t believe. Be wise and seek after Him with all of your heart, soul, and mind to the very end.
